  • THE ABOVE DATES COME FROM HER TOMBSTONE IN THE HOLY CROSS CEMETERY. ON THE
TOMBSTONE HER NAME IS 'ANN'. THE BIRTH
DATE HAS BEEN CONFIRED BY HER BIRTH RECORD IN AUTELBAS. ON THAT RECORD SHE
NAMED 'NANNETTE'. HER LOT IS IN SOUTH EAST CORNOR OF THE CEMETERY IN THE
    'BIEVER' SECTION.
ON THE STONE HER MADIAN NAME IS SPELLED 'BIVER', AS IS THE BIEVER NAME ON THE
OLDER STONES IN THIS SECTION OF THE CEMETERY. THE SEPETEMBER 16th 1890 ISSUE OF
THE LUXEMBURGER GAZATTE LIST HER HOME TOWN AS 'OBERELTER, BELGIAN PROVINCE OF

THERE IS SOME CONFUSION WITH NAMES OF THE VILLAGES FROM WHICH THE BIEVERS CAME.
ANNEIA WAS BAPTISED IN THE CHURCH AT AUTELBAS, HER TOMBSTONE SHE WAS BORN IN
WEILER AND THE lUXEMBOURG GAZATTE SAYS HER FAMILY CAME FROM OBERELTER.
AUTELBAS IS THE LARGER COMMUNITY THAT WAS HOME OF A CHURCH. A MILE TO THE
    NORTHWEST
IS A MUCH SMALLER COMMUNITY NAMED ALTERHAUT. IN FRENCH 'BAS' IS LOW, AND 'HAUT'
IS HIGH. LITERARY 'LOW-AUTEL' AND 'HIGH-AUTEL' BASED ON THEIR POSITIONS ON A
MAP. OBERELTER IN GERMAN IS 'UPPER-ELTER'. THE LUXEMBOURG GAZATTE WAS
WRITTEN IN GERMAN; IT IS UNDERSTAMDABLE THAT THE EDITORS PREFERED THE GERMAN
    FORM OF THE VILLAGE'S NAME.
A MILE FURTHER WEST IS ANOTHER VILLAGE CALLED WEILER. IT IS LARGER THAN
AUTELHAUT AND SMALLER THAN AUTELBAS. ONE MOST MAPS 'WEILER' IS SPELLED
    'WEYLER'.
MOST LIKELY THE BIEVERS ACTUALLY LIVED IN THE AUTELHAUT-WEILER AREA, BUT THEIR
CHURCH TOWN AND TOWN OF RECORD WAS AUTELBAS. THAT WOULD BE MUCH LIKE
    KNELLSVILE AND PORT WASHINGTON.
There is also confusion with the Biever name. This early tombstones use the
spelling 'Biver', by the second generation in America the favored spelling is
clearly 'Biever.' The marriage record of Peter Biever and Catherine Peter's
surname is spelled 'Bivert' and Catherine's, 'Biver'; however, on a related
marriage document, it could be read as 'Bider'. To add even more confusion, on
Catherine's father's death record his name is spelled 'Bivert'.
